This week we will continue reading The Hobbit. Although, we were off to a slow start this past week, the students are moving forward with their readings and the pace is quickening. This week, we hope to complete Chapters 2, 3 and 4. Because the students are actively engaged in many activities relating to The Hobbit, we may not begin Chapter 4 until next week.
Thank you to all who purchased their own copies of The Hobbit. Students who have their personal copy of the book are able to take their books home for additional reading. For those who haven’t been able to purchase a book, do not fret, we continue to have class sets available.
For the past two weeks, we have been reviewing the parts of speech for our Parts of Speech exam, which will be administered on Friday, October 30th.
Students will also enjoy reading a non-fiction article from our Newsela website on Wednesday, October 21. The article will be compatible to The Hobbit.
Important dates to remember for the week of October 23rd:
Spelling Sentences – Due October 22nd
Word Build Packets – Due October 22nd
Spelling Quiz – Due October 23rd
Word Build Quiz – Due October 23rd
Parts of Speech exam – Due October 30th
Meanwhile, the students seem to be enjoying The Hobbit and are adjusting nicely to their roles within their literature circles.
Happy fall!
