All of my classes took the Word Build test last week, which covered the first seven chapters of the book. On average, grades were in the a-b range. This nine-week grading period is ending and we are now starting into the second phase of the school year. Please look for spelling and Word Build to stay consistent as we move forward. Currently, both my first and third-block classes are reading The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, in class. My second and third-block classes are reading The Breadwinner, by Deborah Ellis. In a few week we will be starting a project based on informational writing. The narrative papers we had been working on are all being graded, and I hope to have them finished and in the grade book to cap off the first grading period.
Last week, I sent home a book of Shakespeare plays in narrative form. My first-block class was to read A Midsummer Night's Dream and then return them to me. Today I sent the books home with my third-block class. Please read these carefully, as the vocabulary may be a little tricky. Once both my first and third-block classes have read these, we will begin thinking about a small production of the play. My goal is for students to find far-reaching themes and apply them to other materials they read.
