Welcome! This week, the students will be working on their Spelling and Word Build activities and homework. In addition, the students are beginning their odyssey into literature circles. We will be reading essays, novels and short stories throughout the school year. Participating in literature circles provides the students an interesting approach to learning different aspects of the writings. It also gives them an opportunity to enhance their social skills by discussing various ideas with their group members. The students are placed in groups of four, each inhabiting different roles. Through these different roles, ( illustrator, word watcher, discussion director and theme), the students will collectively complete their lit. circle worksheets, followed up with a whole-class discussion. This week they will complete their worksheets for “Zebra,” and we will begin reading Anna Quindlen’s essay, “Homeless.” They will participate in a literature circle discussion for “Homeless” as well.
